What is Big?

big-beetle-1

We found this huge beetle on a sunny family walk at the beginning of October.

You wonder why I said: “huge”? I never saw a beetle of this kind in our forest that had a length of about four centimetres (1,6″) For me, it was very big!

The beetle came across our path that was covered with a lot beech leaves and beechnut capsules. Just when we discovered the beetle he stopped. We pulled out our phones and started carefully to photograph it. Our model was very patient, and it seemed to us that it was a pleasure for the beetle, too. We were able to get very close, and it waited for us.

I love the color of fallen beech leaves, it’s mostly a warm and shining brown, especially when the sun is shining above them. That is a special variety of beech called “Rotbuche”, in English: European Beech. Unfortunately, I was a bit nervous, because I was afraid the beetle could get scared and would run away. So I had forgotten to set the HDR mode on my phone, that made these wonderful leaves a bit colorless.

A few days later I was able to catch the color again, and now I can show you a typical autumn scene that we enjoy every sunny day in October. 😎

  3. Your images are beautiful, I love the one with that BIG fellow 🙂 I really like its mood and light. Plus, interesting interpretation, absolutely true. Something that is not that big in our world, can be big in another world 🙂 You are teaching others to see beyond. Excellent post.

    1. Thank you, Eduardo! Yes, sometime all we have to do is change our line of sight. Then we are able to discover new things, or we see known things as new.
